1. Turn on Apple’s Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication is a security feature for Apple accounts. It requires you to enter both your Apple account password and a verification code whenever you want to access and manage your account information on your devices.

  • Open the Settings app on your iOS device.

  • Select your name at the top of the screen to access your iCloud account information.

  • Select Password & Security.

  • Select Turn on Two-Factor Authentication and then Continue. If Two-Factor Authentication is already turned on, skip to part 2.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process:

    • You may be asked to answer your Apple ID security questions, or to allow Apple ID sign in from your current device.

    • Confirm or enter your trusted phone number, and choose whether you want to receive verification codes via text message or phone call. Then select Continue.

    • Apple will then send a verification code to your number. You’ll need to enter this code for the next step, so make sure you remember it completely, or copy it down temporarily if needed. Once you select “OK” to close the on-screen notification with your code, you won’t be able to view the same code again.

    • Enter the code on the “Two-Factor Authentication” screen to complete the verification process for your device.

2. Generate an App-Specific Password

An app-specific password is used to connect your account to non-Apple apps and services, including Sugarmate. App-specific passwords are designed for one-time use, and contain sequences of letters selected automatically. You can always remove this password in the future to prevent Sugarmate from having access to your account.

  • From a web browser, go to https://appleid.apple.com/.

  • Sign in using your Apple ID and password. You’ll then be asked to allow Apple ID sign in from your current device, and will receive a verification code. You’ll need to enter this code for the next step so make sure you remember it completely, or copy it down temporarily if needed.

  • After you’re signed in to your account, open the Security option. Then, go to the App-Specific Passwords section and select Generate Password.

  • Enter a label for the password (e.g. “Sugarmate”) then select Create to generate the password.

  • Copy the provided password. You will need to enter this into the next screen after you click “Next” in Sugarmate.

3. Make Sure iCloud Push is Turned On

Push needs to be on in order for your calendars to update in the background and refresh on your watch.

  • Go to the Settings app on your phone and tap Calendar, then tap Accounts

  • Tap Fetch New Data

  • Make sure that “Push” is turned on at the top

  • Find the entry called “iCloud”, then make sure it is set to “Push”. If it isn’t, tap it and change it to “Push”.

Troubleshooting

If you’re having trouble linking your iCloud calendar to Sugarmate, here are some solutions that may help.

Unable to login to your Apple account

  • Open the Settings app on your iOS device.

  • Select your name at the top of the screen to access your iCloud account information.

  • Open Password & Security and select Change Password to enter a new password.

  • Note: These steps only work from a trusted iOS device with a passcode enabled. If you don’t have access to a trusted iOS device, you can reset your password on Apple’s support website: https://iforgot.apple.com/.
